Characteristics of Tea (NF633)

The picking season is longer than for Elsanta with less pronounced peaks.
Fruit Quality
The berries are bright red in colour and of regular conical shape, firm with an excellent sweet flavour. The fruit is glossy and attractive. Shelf life is similar to that of Elsanta and the fruit maintain their gloss and shine during storage.
Fruit Yield
High productivity. Tea produces a higher % Class I fruit compared to Elsanta. The average size of the fruit (ca. 28g) is larger than Elsanta.

Disease Resistance
Tea is resistant to Verticillium wilt (Verticillium dahliae) and crown rot (Phytophthora cactorum). It is susceptible to Colletotrichum, but a standard spray programme is sufficient to control this disease. Tea is proving to be a robust variety performing well on a wide range of areas.
Use of the Variety
Tea is a versatile variety with a flavour and texture well appreciated by consumers. It performs well both in open-field and greenhouse-cultivation and it is suitable for fresh market sales and PYO, as well as for organic production. The large berry size and the high % Class I help to reduce the picking costs and are appreciated by PYO farms.
